some paint color inspiration to calm my nerves...

fabric gift bags

amidst all my packing chaos, i thought i'd share these very orderly photos of a little printing project i did. i carved linoleum blocks and printed them onto muslin bags with fabric ink, then personalized them for different friends and family members and used them as gift packaging.

happy house thoughts

well, i finally have a solid moving plan in place - we'll be driving down to durham next week! i was hoping that we could get all the paperwork done for the house by then, but being far away and snail-mailing things back and forth makes for a much more lengthy process. so its looking like we will have to stay with friends for a couple days until we are allowed to move ourselves (and all our stuff) into the house. this stresses me out a bit (a LOT). so i am trying to breathe and think happy-house-thoughts about what color we will paint the bedroom and such. all in all, the process has gone pretty smoothly, and from the horror stories we've heard from friends (and HGTV), it could be a lot worse than a few days of displacement.
see? positive attitude! i'm trying.

we shall overcome

40,000 people have been gathered for days (and nights) at the capitol building in madison to peacefully protest the bill that would cut the salary and benefit packages of state employees and eliminate their ability to collectively bargain through their unions.

i just have to say, this past week i have been bursting with pride for my hometown. so many people are standing in solidarity with our teachers and other state workers... it gives me goosebumps.

yarn hearts

i've been teaching myself to make crochet hearts this morning in anticipation of my heart-obsessed mom's visit this weekend.
here is the pattern (which i found here):
chain 4, make all stitches into the first chain, 3 trc, 3 dc, chain 1, 1 trc, chain 1, 3 dc, 3 trc, chain 3, slip stich, fasten off.

bee mine

bungalow rainbow

here is the current outside of our 1940's hopefully-soon-to-be-house:
we're not fans of the current "granny peach" color, so i've been thinking (obsessing?) about potential paint/trim options. of course, first things first - the awnings. must. go. but here is a collection of some exterior color inspiration...

and here are some "historically accurate" color schemes:
thoughts? ideas? further inspiration? do tell!

1. things are moving along smoothly with the paperwork for the house
2. i passed my LPC exam, meaning i am now (totally, officially) a licensed counselor in illinois! (but since i'm leaving the state i fear i'll have to do all sorts of stuff over...)
3. eli sent me this video about a fox and a crow and some delicious desserts:

unbelievable snow

Chicago has been flat out of commission for days. It is truly hard to believe the quantity of snow, and to wrap your head around the amazing, terrifying power of nature.

house hunting

here in chicago we are hunkering down for the biggest blizzard since 1967. the whole city is in a tizzy, schools are closed, and plows are at the ready. i am planning to do some hearty cooking as i watch the snow fall (and fall) from the safety of my apartment. we are expecting snowfall that is measured in feel, not inches.

Meanwhile, many miles away....

I have some exciting news in the works. I'm getting all my ducks in a row for my move to Durham, and with any luck, this is the sweet little house that will soon be called home.
