halfy birthday to me!

my sister just sent over these photos from our dinner out tonight (we were celebrating my half birthday, which is something we used to do as kids). we had fancy mexican food, drank sangria, and she gave me a fantastic mr. fox (!) finger puppet.

half birthdays are way better than "real" birthdays. they're casual and silly, and there isn't the same pressure to make it an awesome day - so it's more likely to just BE an awesome day, i think.

mission: eat these canned things

i'm on a mission to eat as much of what is in my pantry as i possibly can before i move. i don't want to haul chickpeas and diced tomatoes all over town, you know?

color theories

i went to home depot this afternoon and looked at paint chips for a while and thought about color ideas for the new living room. what do you think of these options (bearing in mind the rug)?

salt water

river mist

rain water

tide water

smoke rose blush

heathered moor

monica + tomas

since i was participating in the ceremony, i didn't take any photos during the wedding itself (i'm relying on friends to come through with the actual wedding shots - hi, friends!). here are some from before and after, though, so you can see the giant space and the beautiful couple some of the special details...

pre-wedding activities

this weekend was monica's wedding, which was lovely. i have a lot of pictures to sort through, so to start, here are a few from the day before the wedding, when i got to hang out with some of my girls from college and get primped and stuffed with good food.

paint color planning

so, I officially got the apartment I was hoping for (relief!!!), and am now super excitedly planning paint colors. here is the plan so far:

kitchen/dining area = yellow
bedroom = terra cotta
living room/hallways = ???
bathroom = ???

i am thinking a muted blue or some type of light gray in the living room will look nice with my stuff. what do you think? here are paint color visual aids. thoughts/comments (pleasssse)?!

human thing

i love it so.

You're a human thing
Who ya think that you're foolin'
You're not foolin', not foolin' me
You're a human thing
You're so busy frontin'
Confusin' courage and acting
Move me
Move me
Could it really be so wrong
To let somebody, somebody see.
Move me
Move me
A girl can keep it together
Come on now, you know you we'll take the weather
Come on now, you know we love your weather
You got roots cannot be torn from under
Won't you shake it like you've never done before
You're a human thing

groundwork for moving day

i am planning to move next month, which infinitely stresses me out. change in general makes me uneasy, but when it is my home that is in transition, i am especially spazzy (like, i literally have nightmares about not having time to pack everything, leaving things behind, some disaster that causes temporary homelessness, etc.). i have been in my current place for three years, and have accumulated a bit of stuff in that time (specifically heavy furniture), and, though i have many talents, lifting heavy things is not one of them. i have nevertheless helped some friends move over the years who would probably be willing to help me out, but i will still have to somehow gather a billion boxes and rent/drive a u-haul (more nightmares). i have been doing some research on moving in the city, and came upon this service, which i am considering as an earth-friendly alternative to cardboard boxes.

i am also looking into the possibility/price of a moving service. have any of you out there used one? was it worth the money? any recommendations?

birdhouse heart

i love this. i don't remember where i found this image (it's lived on my computer for years), but it totally reminds me of this...

nerdy mixtape

i think you should go here and listen to this awesome collection of songs that were inspired by literature. trust me, you'll like it.
