it was my dad's birthday last week so he and deb came down to chicago for the weekend. here is the birthday boy modeling his birthday scarf i made:

my sister and i got to see a copy of his most recent book and hear stories about the search for the perfect condo (i could talk to deb about real estate listings and/or HGTV all day), and also their new pet fish - my dad possesses absurd/nerdtastic knowledge of fish and their breeding practices (clarified with hand gestures, oh yes they were). it's difficult to explain what it's like when he talks about fish, but it's sort of like maybe he's actually a secret marine biologist by night. a new item on my if-i-had-a-million-dollars list: send dad on a trip the the great barrier reef.

i did use a pattern, one i found online called "yarrow rib", i think. supposedly it is a "masculine looking" stitch? i didn't know scarves had gender parameters, so i am constantly learning.
