literary tattoos

i just spent a really long time perusing this website, which features tattoos inspired by poetry and literature...

i don't have any tattoos, but if i were to get one i kind of like the idea of incorporating text from some meaningful source. off the top of my head i can think of a few lines of walt whitman and e.e. cummings that would be really nice... what would you get?

This is totally awesome! I would love to get another tattoo with a phrase or line that is meaningful to me, but my trouble would be narrowing it down to just one!

Can someone please explain to me the appeal of having a tattoo? Under what conditions do you think that scarring your body forever is the best way to demonstrate your fondness for an image or phrase? If you like poetry, why not simply buy a poetry book and keep it close at hand? Soldiers need tattoos so that when only parts of them can be found, people can figure out who the parts belong to. I honestly don't understand why so many young people are getting tattoos these days. I feel old and out of touch; please help.
